Owner's Spotlight
Hannah RaeOwner: John Miller Hometown: Bangor, Maine Homeport: Southwest Harbor, Maine Occupation: Former Restaurateur now involved in Property Management Vessels Purchased from DiMillo’s: Back Cove 29 Hull 169 Back Cove 33 Hull 45 Boat name and why? John named his boat after his daughter, Hannah Rae. Before John purchased Hannah Rae, Hannah would much rather stay in Bangor and swim in their pool. Now when John asks Hannah is she would rather stay in the pool or head to the boat, Hannah beats John to the car and is ready to head to Southwest Harbor for a fun day of boating with her Dad. How did you decide on a Back Cove 29 and 33? John has owned boats ranging from Boston Whalers to Grady Whites. At this point in his life, John and his family’s needs have changed and the Back Cove 29, and now the 33, is certainly a vessel that meets those desires. He was truly impressed by the quality of the Back Cove’s and the value. John states that the Back Cove’s are an art form that turn heads and the design is one with credibility in a state where some of the best boats in the world are built. Not only is John enthusiastic about Hannah Rae, he is also very passionate about supporting “local” Maine businesses and the local economy. He is proud to purchase two Maine Built Boats built by real Maine boat builders! Typical Cruising Destinations: John enjoys cruising with family and friends just as much as cruising solo. He finds that being out on the water provides calmness and relaxation. Basically, if John has the opportunity to be out on the water, you’ll see him out there! Some of his favorite destinations include anywhere around Mt. Desert Island; Bar Harbor, Schoodic Point, Somes Sound and Frenchboro. He is planning an adventure out to Mt. Desert Rock, a destination they have never cruised to. Hannah enjoys seeing the seals and is hoping to see some whales soon.
Best Cruising Experience: Listening to John describe one of his favorite moments on the water brings anyone listening to a different place. “My boat is a little piece of paradise,” John expressed he struggled with words to convey his bliss. The 4th of July always brings John and his family to Somes Harbor, the end of Somes Sound, where a local family holds a private party every year which includes a well known musical act. In past years, Reba McEntire performed and this year it was the Three Tenors! Many boats are rafted and as the sun falls below the horizon, the music carries over the harbor and the fireworks begin. John says it is quite a show and it is always a great memory! Scariest Cruising Experience: John is thrilled to not have his scariest cruising experience on the Back Cove, but anyone that has cruised in Maine knows the fog can role in in the blink of an eye. On a previously owned boat, John was out on a beautiful sunny day and the next thing he knew he was caught in the fog however, as he says with a snicker, he has lived to purchase the Back Cove 33 so it has never stopped him. “The ocean is ever changing and it can be unnerving at times, but I respect the ocean and the experiences.” Experience with DiMillo’s: John has had the opportunity to visit a number of DiMillo’s locations and he said that he feels as he is part of the DiMillo’s family. “DiMillo’s treats you like they would want to be treated. They bend over backwards to make sure you are out boating and having an enjoyable experience.” After John’s purchase of the Back Cove 29 he gained confidence in DiMillo’s support after the sale. John, formally a restaurateur, understands what customer service is all about and due to the support he received from DiMillo’s, it made the decision to move up into the Back Cove 33 easy. John prides himself on being a loyal DiMillo’s customer and looks forward to continuing his loyalty in years to come! John will soon take delivery of his new Back Cove 33, Hannah Rae!
